'(Mis)guided feminists' or (Mis)Translation
I was prompted to start this blog today after reading a post on the Biblical Greek email list. The post spoke of "Misguided feminists", and while dismissing correct gender translation as simply a tool of those striving for "political correctness", got the bare historical facts wrong. I used to teach ancient Greek language at university, and then when I translated the New Testament from the Greek, I attracted all sorts of charges of feminist agenda simply for translating correctly. So many women are kept out of the ministry on the grounds of "what the Bible says" but the Bible in Greek actually doesn't say anything against women in the ministry. (Mis)translation is a different matter.

There is a large segment of the population that would agree that women are not excluded from ministry, but they would take exception to women being Senior Pastor.

Interesting what Sheldon says as the large segment of the population have been brainwashed and misguided for years by mistranslations, not only that they the sad fact is people believe what they have been told for years by people they respect. Not long ago I watched a documentary on TV (can't remember the name unfortunately) it went through the roles women had back in the days just after Jesus had gone, and it seemed they outnumbered the men in roles in the mimistery. These roles were over men as well. At the end of the day why is there such a fuss about men and women and is God a man? What is the definition of a man? Why do people find things so hard to accept and when did all these misconceptions begin I wonder.

they that teach and those dont read for themselves (let alone get back to the original words and take into account the context) are mis guided and mis translating. Dis discrimination is rife in the pulpit. However, I notice Ms Guided and Ms Translation have somehow found a way to slip in unnoticed and now they have the best seats in the house!
I happened upon the last 10 mins of a sermon yesterday and get this... Samuel's parents were ungodly - his mother Hannah was an ungodly woman - the \sons of the priests were sleepng with prostitutes ! at the door of the temple! That preacher has gone to bed with Ms Translation. When the plain reading of Scripture can so blatently be Ms translated, how can the congregation not be called collectively Ms Guided. Anyway, I had to leave as I was teaching that day in another place. I used that new translation by Ann Nyland 'The Source New Testament. So much easier to teach on the household codes eg and the woman Q in general when you can back it up with such plain and obvious translation. Has anyone heard about it? When it came to 1 Cor 14: 34 'women keep silent ... and then Nyland translates Paul as replying with "utter rubbish" which she says has been left out altogether ... but in any case "What"! is there in the KJV etc v 35. No one had even read the translation that is there - the What! of Paul, and figured it out, never mind what isnt there. Love that translation mmmm. Patricia
